Italy is a peninsula and shares its land borders with France, Switzerland, Slovenia and Austria to it north, it also enclaves the San Marino and Vatican City. The highest peak in Italy is the Monte Bianco which is located at the height of 4810 metres. The River Po is the largest river in Italy and Lake Garda which is 367.94 sq km in size is the largest lake. Many islands in Italy are of volcanic origin. Etna, in Sicily is the largest volcano in Italy.
Italy mainly has four seasons; spring, summer, autumn and winter. Spring arrives in the month of March and continues till May. Then comes summer which lasts from June to August wherein July is the hottest month of the year, followed by three months of autumn starting from September. Winter stays from December to February. Winter is also accompanied by rains in December. January is the coldest month in Italy.
