Sweden lies to the west of Baltic Sea and Gulf of Bothnia which provides a long coastline forming the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula. The border of Sweden with Norway is considered to be as the longest uninterrupted border in the entire Europe. Being the 55th largest country in the world, Sweden is the largest in Northern Europe. The lowest elevation in Sweden is said to be the Bay of Lake Hammarsjon. The highest point here is Kebnekaise. Upto 25 provinces in Sweden are typically based on culture, geography and history. These provinces play a very major role in the identity of the people. Sweden also has the largest protected area in the entire of Europe. 65% of the total land area in Sweden is covered with forests while the Southern Sweden is agricultural since the beginning. Gotland and Oland are the largest islands in Sweden while Vanern and Vattern are the largest lakes.The lakes in Sweden are really important and they form a significant part of the Southern Sweden.
The climate here tends to be mostly temperate, with four seasons and mild temperatures all round the year. Because of the high altitude, the length of daylight varies a lot. There is also a great temperature variation from north to south.
