San Francisco is a city which is known for its benchmark, from the Golden Gate Bridge to Alcatraz Island. Nevertheless, there is one particular icon which has experience the test of time and today still attracts visitors is: The cable car. The San Francisco cable car system is a true figure of the city, and is the last manually negotiated cable car system. Despite there are only three lines in operation, the cable car is still a great way to see all of San Francisco’s enormous sights. Two of the cable car routes take passengers downtown, to the Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf which are major two districts which are famous with both locals and tourists.

Well established in 1873, the first cable car was successfully out for public in August, with regular service started in September. Soon after this more cable cars were been put to the system, creating a mark and commercial means of transport. For the very first time, locals were able to get through the city with complete ease, and the uniqueness of the cable cars promoted people to explore San Francisco in better depth. In 1892, the first electric streetcars were put into operation, and were considered remarkable to the original cable cars as they were very cheaper to manufacture and run.

As modern technology expands, the cable cars became a headache for the government, yet never declined in public. In fact, during the 1940’s, various applications were held to keep the original cable cars in action. Eventually it was acknowledge that the cable car would remain in operation, with only major routes remaining for it to pass over.

So whether it’s local or a tourist, everyone likes to have a ride of the historical streetcar. They take pictures put them in the groups and even they like to hear the way it functions all this is put in a picture to keep it still moving on the street of San Francisco.

Since then, the cable cars have become a most famous with tourists, and are considered one of the top appealing attractions of San Francisco. The three routes pass by some of the city’s most popular areas, including Fisherman’s Wharf and becoming iconoclastic.
