Places to See in Bhutan

The tiny kingdom of Bhutan nestles among the amazing snow peak mountains and viridescent forests of the Himalaya. What makes it unique is the huge forest cover that makes it the only carbon negative country in the world. But that’s not all there is unique about Bhutan. It’s a long list of monasteries, forts, trekking spots, shopping areas, and the culture and traditions of Buddhism, which all make it a magical and mystical place to be.

Here’s a list of the top places that you can add to your Bhutan package from Kolkata.

Thimpu

Thimpu is the capital of Bhutan. Lying on the higher ranges of the Himalayas, Thimpu is an intriguing destination that offers marvelous views of the emerald forests and the picturesque Raidak river. The best places to visit in Thimpu are Buddha Dordenma, Memorial Chorten, Motithang Takin Preserve, Dechencholing Palace, Clock Tower Square, etc. Some other places that you must include in your list are dzongs like Tashichho and Simtokha, and monasteries like Tango, Cheri, and Dechen Phodrang.

Thimpu has many cafes, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs as well, where you can socialize and take a break from your excursion.

Paro

Paro is popular for its serene beauty. The view of the unlevelled mountains, verdant fields, and buildings of historical importance make the place one of the most attractive destinations in Bhutan. As it has the only international airport in Bhutan, Paro sees a large number of tourists throughout the year.

The major attractions of Paro are monasteries and palaces like the Paro Taktsang or Tiger’s Nest Monastery, Pelri Goemba, Ugyen Pelri Palace, dzongs like Paro and Zuri. Monuments and museums, such as Khangkhu Lhakhang, Bondey Lhakhang, Druk Choeding, Tago Lhakhang, and National Museum are equally visited by tourists.

Exploring the historic and peaceful town of Paro on foot while witnessing the daily life of the locals is a truly unmatchable experience

Trongsa

Lying in central Bhutan, Trongsa, with its lavish verdure, creates a lovely spot to surround your senses and forget about the world. Trongsa is conveniently located in the center of Bhutan and has a junction, from which Bumthang, Gelephu, and Punakha are well connected by roads.

A major tourist attraction in Trongsa is the Trongsa Dzong – a Buddhist monastery with beautiful red roofs and whitewash walls set down above a valley. After sightseeing, you can pass your time by walking through the sluggish town along the shops brightened by pot plants and happy locals.

Punakha

Punakha is a beautiful destination in Bhutan, which is widely sought after by thrill and adventure seekers. Tourists can go for river rafting in the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers. Besides, it is also famous for Punakha Tshechu, a religious festival in Bhutan celebrated with masked dances and traditional music.

Travelers visiting Punakha are mesmerized by the surreal experience that the place offers with its culture and divine natural beauty. Chimi Lhakhang, Namgyal Chorten, Punakha Dzong, Limbhukha are some of the must-see attractions in Punakha.

Jakar

As you approach the foothills of Choekhor Valley, you will find Jakar, a place well-known for its trading center and the Jakar Dzong. It is called Chamkhar among the locals.

The Jakar Dzong is probably the largest in Bhutan and lies calmly above the town in the Chamkar Valley of Bumthang. Other widely visited attractions here include Wangdicholing Palace, Cheese Factory, Bumthang Brewery, and Lhodrak Kharchu Goemba which was founded by Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche in the 1970s.

Phobjikha

The glacial valley of Phobjikha borders the Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park. This is the place where you can see the beautiful black-necked cranes during the winters. Apart from that, you can witness some thrilling festivals that Phobjikha celebrates every year, such as the Tsechu Festival and the Crane Festival.

Wangdue Phodrang

The Wangdue Phodrang is a quaint and calm town in Bhutan near the borders of Punakha. It is well-known for its slate and stone carvings and bamboo products. The Wangdue Phodrang Dzong is a major attraction here. Tourists are allowed to visit it only during the autumn when Wangdue Phodrang Tshechu is celebrated. Other places that are widely visited are Radak Neykhang, Army Training Centre, Dzong Gate, and Eight Chortens.

Excellent Arrangements Made By FlaminGo

At the outset on my behalf and on behalf of my 3 other co-travelers, i thank you very much for the excellent arrangements made by you under the auspices of Flamingo Travels for our recent travel to Leh, Nubra Valley, and Pangong Lake.

All the Hotels were very hospitable, caring, and full of comfort. The food was excellent and delicious. In particular, our experience at The Indus Valley Hotel was par excellent. The staff was so professionally trained, caring to the minutest details, ever-smiling, every co-operative. The rooms were also very cosy and comfortable. The thing is that for the first two day's stay two different grades of rooms were given which on our request they corrected by giving both deluxe rooms side by side during second time visit.

The Hunder Resort had one peculiarity that they provide just one bottle of water per room (between two pax) per day. And general medical advice is to drink a lot of water. You may ask your new guests to carry one crate of water bottles with them from day one to avoid such small inconveniences. When asked why so, the manager shifted the blame to hard negotiations by Flamingo Travels - which was a silly excuse by them.

You advised us to visit Turtuk with enough food. we visited and insist that you suggest to those who can do little tracking of about 30 minutes to visit Tyaksi which is further ~ 5 Kms. away from Turtuk. It is an experience to view Indian Bunkers at quite some height on steep mountains after a track as aforesaid. it fills one with a sense of gratitude and pride for our protector Jawans.

At Pangong Lake, we got to stay just in front of the Lake which was so satisfying and thrilling. We suggest that you advise your other clients to visit the lake in the early morning the next day - especially the sunrise. They would cherish it for times to come.

And the transport services were just marvellous. On the third morning, the vehicle did not come at the appointed time and when contacted, we were told that soon after reaching the hotel, the driver noticed brake oil leakage and so the delay. they provided us with a new vehicle which was much better and the Driver - Sevag was the icing on the cake. He was so agile, courteous, swift, joyous, knowledgeable and always at our service.

You may like to advise your clients to skip visit to Rancho School which is just a waste of time and energy.

Cannot resist the temptation to suggest that you should ask your clients to buy some homoeopathic remedies from a store called "Jashoda Homoe Store" in basement opp. Medilink, Satellite. The medicines especially for Leh dispensed by Mr Manish were so useful not only to us but to other friends who happened to be there, that it made our travel so comfortable. It proved much efficacious than allopathic ones. This is just a suggestion.

Besides, someone had advised us to carry "activated charcoal warmers" available at Romano Store on C G Road which we did. At Pangong Lake at night, we just opened the same, shook it 5-6 times and wore it on the chest. it gave warmth for about 8 to 10 hours. This is indispensable. Per piece cost is Rs. 100. It is just use and throw kind of thing. and does not take much space.

Once again thank you and Flamingo a million for the best ever arrangements made for us.
