Day wise travel itinerary

  • Day 1 :Amritsar - Dalhousie (200km / 4hours 50min approx)

    Arrive at Amritsar Airport, meet the assistance and drive to Dalhousie. On arrival check into the hotel. One can opt for Kalatop Wildlife Reserve: This wildlife sanctuary is a major tourist destination in Dalhousie because of the thick deodar, oak and pine forests as well as a variety of fauna like Pheasants, the Himalayan Black Bear, and the Himalayan Black Marten. The best time to visit this wildlife sanctuary is from September to March when the weather is pleasant and perfect for safaris and sightseeing expeditions.

    Timings: 7:00 am – 6:00 pm Entry fee: INR 250* per person

    Return to the hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at Dalhousie.

  • Day 2 :Dalhousie

    Today Morning after breakfast start little early, take full day trip of sightseeing place of Dalhousie covering Khajjiar - a popular tourist spot, the most beautiful and lush green place where you can enjoy photography and Horse riding (at additional cost). It’s also known as ‘Mini Switzerland’. Surrounded by a thick cover of deodar and pine trees with the

    Snow Capped Himalayas in the backdrop.

    Visit Singing Hill’, Dainkund Peak is one of the highly recommended and famous places in Dalhousie. One can enjoy refreshing views of the green hills, valleys and plains while they’re here. But what makes it stand out is the enchanting view of the three rivers – Chenab,

    Ravi and Beas that weave through these greens below and enhance the beauty of this place manifold.

    St. John’s Church: It is the oldest church in the town and has a lot of religious and historical importance. Lady Elgin donated stained-glass windows which happen to be the main attraction of the church.

  • Day 3 :Dalhousie - Dharmashala (118km / 3hours 40min approx)

    After breakfast drive to Dharamshala.

    Dharamshala is synonymous with the Tibetan Govt. in exile, the actual headquarters in Dharmashala at Gangchen Kyishong, and most travelers hang out at McLeod Ganj.

    On arrival check into the hotel.

    Evening you can visit the colorful Kotiwali Bazaar – displaying miniature paintings, elaborately embroidered costumes of Kangra people, wood carvings, tribal jewellery and, to cap it all, a million and a half year old fossil of an elephant’s tooth.

    Cafes: Dharamshala is a popular tourist spot among youngsters because of its amazing cafe culture. This town, specifically Mcleodganj, is dotted with several cafes that serve delicious local and international cuisine, and beverages. They are great stops to unwind with your friends, chat all evening, and pamper your taste buds amid that instagram-worthy panorama.

  • Day 4 :Dharamshala

    Today morning after breakfast check out from the hotel. Visit places in Dharamshala like Dal Lake: located on McLeod Ganj Road, North of Dharamsala and McLeod Ganj in Kangra district. Known for its altitude, it is surrounded by canopies of deodar trees that add to the charm of this small lake.

    HPCA Cricket stadium: The HPCA stadium is located in Dharamsala and is more popularly used for Ranji Trophy matches. The high altitude of the stadium makes it a little difficult to use for international cricket since rains or snow can disrupt roads making transportation tough. Catch a game when here and enjoy the sport as you take in the breathtaking and majestic mountains in the background.

    Gyuto Monastery: It is located approximately 9 kilometers south east of Dharamsala on the Palampur-Dharamsala road. It’s a very important monastery in Buddhist heritage as it is a premium tantric college. It follows the principles of the Gelug Order, a relatively new Buddhist order that focuses on discipline and ethics to achieve spiritual fulfillment. This is a beautiful place to visit in order to relax and meditate. The sheer beauty along with the peace and quiet of this monastery is sure to calm anyone. It’s a place one must visit to experience it

  • Day 5 :Dharamshala - Amritsar (200 km/ 4Hours 30min approx)

    Today Morning after breakfast check out early and drive to Amritsar.

    On arrival in Amritsar, check into the hotel. Evening visit Gobindgarh Fort: The very symbol of Punjab has an aspiring story. You will then return to the hotel in the evening for overnight stay. This magnificent heritage site has a glorious history of its own. Right from the era of Bhangi Misl – 257 years old to the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh to the British East India Company to the Indian Army to now the people of Punjab. Discover the grand stories, the history of the past.

    Timings: 10:00 am – 10:00 pm Sound & Light show: After sunset.

  • Day 6 :Amritsar

    Today early morning one can opt to visit Golden Temple & enjoy its beauty during the sunrise.

    Golden Temple: This architectural marvel is only a small part of this huge gurudwara complex, known to Sikhs as Harmandir Sahib (or Darbar Sahib). The temple sits on a rectangular platform, surrounded by a pool of water called the Amrit Sarovar, from which the city received its name. The Guru Granth Sahib (Holy book of Sikhs) is installed in the temple every morning, and returned at night to the Akal Takhat, the temporal seat of the Khalsa brotherhood. With the support of Hukam Singh Chimni and Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the temple was decorated with the stunning gold and marble work that continues to inspire awe in admirers from all over the world today. The beauty of Golden temple is at is best during sunrise and after sunset when the temple is lit up.

    Timings: 3:00 am – 10:00 pm all days No entry fee

    (Note: If one wants they can be a part of Langar seva or can have langar Prasad at the gurudwara in the morning).

    Akal Takht: the highest seat of the authority of Khalsa. Any order from the one seated in the Akal Takht is mandatory for all Sikhs. It is situated within the Golden Temple complex.

    Return to the hotel, freshen up & take breakfast.

    Later visit Jallianwala Bagh : Jallianwala Bagh has the most tragic yet landmark events in the history of India where many people were massacred by East Indian Company during Revolution time. The walls are spotted with bullet marks and holes telling you the story of the disaster that took place, back on 13th April 1919. The park has information plaques at places to help you know the historical importance of each spot there

    Ramgarh: The Ramgarh Palace, which used to be the summer residence of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, is now a beautiful museum. It has the royal arms and armour, paintings, manuscripts and various other personal belongings of the King.Afternoon around 3 pm, drive to Attari Wagah Border (31 kms from Amritsar) to witness the prestigious and awe-inspiring ‘Lowering of the Flags’ ceremony before closing the Border gates at the time of sunset.  Evening free for leisure. Return to the hotel. Dinner & Overnight stay at Amritsar.

Darbar Sahib or Sri Harmandir Sahib or The Golden Temple is one of the most spiritual Place in India and the holiest shrine for Sikhism. Located in city center  Golden Temple is easily accessible from any part of the city. The  Striking Golden architecture of the temple and daily Langar attracts as a larger number of devotees and visitors every day.The temple feeds nearly  100,000 people free food  from all walks of life. The Main Temple housing the Shrine is known as  Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib. The spiritual focus is the tank, the Amrit Sarovar. The Sikh Museum is located inside the main entrance clock tower. The temple was repeatedly rebuilt by the Sikhs after it was destroyed several times by the Muslim armies from Afghanistan and the Mughal Empire. 

Sri Harmandir Sahib (The Golden Temple) organises the largest langar sewa in the world. It serves around a 100,000 devotees daily. While food is served, all the devotees sit together in rows on the floor, irrespective of their religion, caste or creed. All the devotees are considered equal here.

The stairs that enter the temple go downwards. This is designed in this way to symbolise the humble way of living


Important Note:

  • Wearing shorts is not advisable.
  • On arrival at the Golden Temple, both men and women are required to wear a scarf over their head (don’t worry if you forget to bring a scarf as headscarves are sold outside at a very cheap price).
  • Free Bus facility is available for the Airport, Railway Station and/or Bus Stand from the Golden Temple.
  • Wheel chairs are available to the physically challenged and/or the very old. They can be procured from an office in the Parikarma near Ber Baba Budha Sahib.

Jallianwala Bagh

Spread over 6.5 acres of land near Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh is connected with one of the saddest day in Indian History which occurred in April 1919.Thousand of innocent people were killed on the day of  gathering of Baisakhi by the order given by General Dyer.

The place is now turned into beautiful public park.The tragic incident left a deep scar on the country, and a memorial was constructed after the independence and was inaugurated on 13 April 1961. A number of structures are present inside the premises which remind’s of the incident that occurred here. These include a wall which still bears the marks of the bullets that were shot blindly at the civilians and a well in which many people jumped to save themselves from the  bullets.Over a 1000 Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs lost their lives in this brutal assault.

The Wagah Border Ceremony or the Beating Retreat Ceremony is held every evening just before sunset.30 Minute display of military camaraderie from the India and Pakistan meet at this border post.</div><div><br></div><div>The Ceremony has been conducted by the Indian Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers since 1959. This includes the closing of the international gates and lowering the flags of both countries.</div><div><br></div><div>Thousands of people come here every day to witness the ceremony, the crowd engages in chanting the Indian national anthem and enjoying on rounds of Bollywood songs.</div><div><b><br></b></div><div><b>Important Note :&nbsp;</b></div><div><br></div><ul><li>No, there is no ticket for Wagah border and you do not need any pass to watch Wagah border ceremony as it is free and open for everyone. But, one should reach at least an hour before to get proper seats because it is usually crowded with tourists.</li><li>There is no online booking for the VIP pass. You need to go there a day in advance with your id proof and request for a pass, you collect the passes next day on your way to the Wagah border. The pass window is a few KM's before the border. You need a pass only if you want preferential seating.</li><li>Mobile phones, cameras and men's wallets are allowed. No covered bags, including women's purses &amp; handbags, are allowed inside the visitor areas. However, border personnel allow clear plastic bags with few snacks, water, children's food etc.</li></ul>

The Gobindgarh Fort is a  museum and Culture theme park that depicts the history of Punjab’s rich culture and all it glory. Museums here feature a collection of traditional Punjabi attire, household items, weapons of war used in the olden days. Fortis famous to witness a live performance of Bhangra and traditional martial art know as Gatka. Art Museum houses paintings of many saints and warriors from across Punjab. Tourist can also visit Haat  Bazar, to buy traditional items such as phulkari style attire and Juttis.

Gobindgarh Fort is in the heart of Amritsar. Distance between Golden Temple and Gobindgarh Fort is 2 Kms or 1.2 miles
