Your local guide will lead you through central Melbourne’s iconic laneways and arcades and fill you in on landmarks like Flinders Street Station, Federation Square and the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Melbourne is the coastal capital of the southeastern Australian state of Victoria. At the city's centre is the modern Federation Square development, with plazas, bars, and restaurants by the Yarra River. In the Southbank area, the Melbourne Arts Precinct is the site of Arts Centre Melbourne – a performing arts complex – and the National Gallery of Victoria, with Australian and indigenous art, Melbourne’s earned its spot as one of the great big cities of the world. It’s got it all: parks and nature, colourful neighbourhoods, a hip food scene, and plenty of history. Sip flat whites in cosy cafes, go thrift shopping on Brunswick Street, and spend your afternoons laying out in Fitzroy Gardens. There’s also endless art and culture to explore—take a stroll down Hosier Lane for the city’s most iconic street art, or check out the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre in the Melbourne Museum to learn more about indigenous history.
