Waitomo Glowworm Caves

The world-renowned Waitomo Glowworm Caves occupy a high placing in the New Zealand vacation wish-list. The caves were revealed in the late 19th century by a local Maori chief. They were accessed to the public shortly thereafter with local Maori acting as guides. The glowworm named Arachnocampa luminosa is exclusive to New Zealand.
