Presidential Residence
The residence building is designed for holding official state events. It has offices and large hall spaces. The residence building is a monument of historical and cultural significance as the building was initially designed as a museum and its construction began in 1984.
The reconstruction of the city administration building is expected to complete in the second quarter of 2022, according to the press service of the Almaty Mayor’s Office. The demolition or construction of a new building is not required.
The construction and installation works cost 4.3 billion tenge (US$10 million). This includes repair and restoration work, and strengthening of all load-bearing structures.
The city authorities reported that 243 buildings are subject to restoration in Almaty on Jan. 27. Twenty-seven of these buildings are administrative ones and 216 are office buildings.

Republic Square
Republic Square or The New Square is Almaty’s main and central squares which is used for public events. This square had the former Presidential Palace which is now used as Municipal offices along with the Akimat House, The Monument of Independence, The Central State Museum and many other influential buildings of the area. The Square was created because due to increase of population, the old square could not accommodate people during festival and other events. Hence the new Square or the Republic Square was opened in 1980 and ever since has served an area for celebrations, mass parades, rallies, festivals. To make it more beautiful, the area was decorated with lush green cover of deciduous and coniferous trees.

Zelenyy Bazar
The Green Bazaar, or Zelionyj Bazar, is a place you really should visit when visiting Almaty or Alma-Ata. This market is central to the every day life of the local people and it is so called the ‘Green Bazar, or market, bcause in the past it was the traditional place to buy and sell local produce like vegetables. It is by no means the only market in Almaty, but it is the most well known, and probably, sells the widest range of goods. This is a great place to feel the real atmosphere of central Asia and to get involved with a bit of ‘haggling’ and sampling of local produce.
Rakhat Candy Factory
This chocolate factory is 75+ years old and have factory outlet near green bazar. They have hundreds of variety of chocolates and candies in the stole apart from pure honey and few other things. One must visit this store and must have some spare time due to heavy rush of visiters and ques. But everything is systematic, the staff is cooperative and helful, ofcourse short of time. So, advise you to first decide what and how much you want to buy and then get into any of the que. 100+ type of chocolates and believe me, ultimate flavours with good quality and reasonable rates. they have all range of chocolates and candies. No bargaining. A must visit place for shopping for kids. Now lotte owns majority stake in the company.
