Founded in 1630, it’s one of the oldest cities in the U.S. The key role it played in the American Revolution is highlighted on the Freedom Trail, a 2.5-mile walking route of historic sites that tells the story of the nation’s founding. Some of the stops include Faneuil Hall Marketplace, which is a festival indoor and outdoor mall and food eatery, Boston Garden, which hosts rock concerts and amateur sports, as well as once being the site for a speech by John F. Kennedy. Another significant stop include the USS Constitution, famous for her actions in the War of 1812 against Great Britain, where she defeated five enemy warships and captured numerous merchant boats. She is now is berthed at Pier 1 at one end of Boston’s Freedom Trail and has sailed as recently as August 2012, making her the world’s oldest commissioned naval vessel afloat.
