Grand Friday Mosque : Islamic Center of Maldives

Grand Friday Mosque is one of the religious places of Maldives and is also quite well known in the world. The Islamic Center's Grand Friday Mosque is situated closely to the main jetty of Male. This mosque is not just visited by spiritual persons but it is also visited by those who are keen on architecture.  The mosque dates back to the year 1984. This beautiful shrine has been named after King Muhammad Thakurufaanu-Al-Auzam. It is made up of pure white marble with a big golden dome placed on the top of the main square. The exterior and interiors of the mosque have beautiful wooden carvings and designs depicting Arabic calligraphy. The size of the mosque is quite big enough to have around 5000 devotees at a given point in time. Both women and men can visit the mosque between 0900 to 1700 hours.
