Menara Gardens

The Menara Gardens have been around since the 12th century, when they were first constructed by the Almohad dynasty. The gardens were originally used as an agricultural area, with the surrounding walls and towers providing protection from invaders. Over time, the gardens were expanded and improved upon, with the addition of a large pool and pavilion in the 16th century. The gardens were also used as a place of relaxation and contemplation for the sultans of Morocco. The Menara Gardens are known for their unique design and layout. The gardens are divided into four sections, each with its own distinct features. The first section is the main garden, which is filled with lush vegetation and fruit trees. The second section is the pool area, which is surrounded by a large pavilion and several smaller buildings. The third section is the orchard, which is filled with olive trees and other fruit-bearing plants. Finally, the fourth section is the tower, which provides a stunning view of the surrounding landscape.

souks and Jemaa El Fna square

Jemaa el-Fnaa is a square and market place in Marrakesh's medina quarter. It remains the main square of Marrakesh, used by locals and tourists.Marrakesh was founded by the Almoravid Dynasty in 1070 by Abu Bakr ibn Umar and subsequently developed by his successors.[8]:?63?[9][10][11] Initially, the city's two main monuments and focal points were the fortress known as Ksar el-Hajjar ("fortress of stone") and the city's first Friday mosque (the site of the future Ben Youssef Mosque). The Ksar el-Hajjar was located directly north of today's Kutubiyya Mosque. The major souk (market) streets of the city thus developed along the roads linking these two important sites and still correspond to the main axis of souks today.[12] At one end of this axis, next to the Ksar el-Hajjar, a large open space existed for temporary and weekly markets. This space was initially known as Rahbat al-Ksar ("the place of the fortress").[7][13] Other historical records refer to it as as-Saha al-Kubra ("the grand square"), or simply as as-Saha or ar-Rahba.

Drive to Tizi n’Ticka pass

Between Marrakech and Ouarzazate, this vertiginous road takes you though some of the High Atlas’ most beautiful sites over nearly 200 kilometres. The natural landscapes and their colours change constantly along the drive, so this road provides a condensed version of all the surprising richness of the region, and numerous opportunities for hikes.

Snaking through the mountain road’s twists and turns, the drive rises atop the plains to reach its culminating point, the Tizi N Tichka mountain pass (“the pasture pass”, 2260 m), an imposing natural barrier between the provinces of Marrakech and Ouarzazate. The view and change in altitude are quite impressive. You’ll next cross the Tizi N’Aït Imquer mountain pass, which offers an astounding panorama over the Jebel Tistouit, in the middle of a ring of snow peaked mountains. Below, you’ll see a number of kasbahs and little villages.
