Getting Around Dubai

Before booking a Dubai trip packages, ensure that you know the details that involve the Dubai Public transportation system. For the longest time, it seemed that Dubai was a city designed for just cars, but now the Road and Transport Authority has managed to build a good public transport system that can rival some of the best in the world. The buses are punctual, the metro system is state-of-the-art, and the cabs are accessible in most parts of the city.

Basics

Now before you venture out into the city, you need to know about the basics of Dubai’s public transport. The best part is all the various public transport facilities use the same ticket type and that’s an NOL card. This way you don’t have to worry about purchasing a different type of ticket for each service. However, road taxis have to be paid in cash. An NOL card is a smart card that allows passengers to use different RTA transport modes. It has a touch and go feature that helps with entry and exit gates at the Metro station. You will get access to Buses, Water Buses, Metros, Dubai Tram, and Abra Rides with this smart card.

Getting to the city from the airport

There are two major ways you can get to Dubai City from the airport, besides taking a taxi (which can get expensive), and that is the Metro and Bus.

By Metro

Terminals one and three are connected to the city through a major metro network. The main metro lines connect the airport to downtown Dubai, JLT/DMCC, Dubai Marina, and Jebel Ali. If you land at Terminal 2 then you can take a bus to Terminals 1 or 3, if you want to take a metro into the city.

By Bus

There is an efficient network of buses from the airport to the city and the fleet includes air-conditioned buses that start at 2 dollars per journey. The bus stop is located opposite Terminals 1, 2, and 3. Also, if you want to use public buses in Dubai you have to purchase an NOL card because cash is not accepted. Bus no. 401 and 402 will take you into the city, and children below five years get to travel for free.
