Best time to visit in South Korea

The first thing to do when planning your trip to South Korea is to pick the best time to visit. Choosing the right season makes planning simpler. South Korea is a land of changing landscapes and clearly different seasons.

The country has four seasons, and each one gives a different travel experience. The best time to visit South Korea depends on what you like - cherry blossoms in spring, colourful leaves in autumn, fun festivals, or snowy winters. Try to match your travel dates with the things you want to do in South Korea. Knowing the weather will help you pack smart and enjoy your trip. Be aware of major holidays like the Lunar New Year, Korean Thanksgiving, and Buddha’s Birthday, as many locals travel during this time. This can lead to crowded transport or booked hotels.

Spring Season – March to May

Spring is often seen as the prettiest time to explore South Korea. It starts in March, but the weather is still cool, with temperatures around 10°C to 15°C. Spring in South Korea is a dream season with cherry blossoms, mild temperatures, and colourful festivals. This season is the best time to travel to Korea, especially in April when blossoms bloom in Seoul, Gyeongju, and Jeju Island. As winter ends, the country comes to life with pink and white cherry blossoms.

Cities like Seoul and Gyeongju host spectacular festivals to celebrate this magical time. You can join locals for a picnic under the blooming trees in various parks across the city. Spring relates to new beginnings in Korea, adding a special vibe for those who visit. It is the perfect time for city strolls, countryside hikes, and experiencing Korea’s nature in full bloom.

However since many people travel during this season, hotels can be expensive and tourist spots may be crowded. If you are booking a South Korea tour from India, it is best to plan and reserve early.

Summer in South Korea is warm, vibrant, and full of life. In June, spring turns into summer and the rainy season begins. It rains often, but you will still get sunny days. You will experience hot, humid weather with temperatures reaching 25°C to 30°C. But summer also means beaches, festivals, and a youthful energy across the cities. Visit coastal cities like Busan to unwind on beautiful beaches. The days are long and sunny, perfect for swimming and water sports.

The monsoon season typically arrives in July, bringing sudden showers. The sea breeze and water help cool you down from the summer heat. Summer in South Korea is full of fun festivals and events. You can enjoy outdoor concerts, beach parties, and traditional celebrations. Many Koreans also go on vacation during this time, so popular tourist spots become busy and full of energy.

Autumn Season – September to November

Many consider autumn to be the best time to visit South Korea. You will be amazed by the stunning fall foliage painting mountains and parks in brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows. The weather becomes crisp and comfortable, perfect for hiking and outdoor activities. From September to November, the weather is pleasant with little rain - great for travel. It is a perfect time to hike in national parks and see the mountains in beautiful fall colours.

Winter Season – December to February

Winter in South Korea is cold but magical. Even southern areas are below 10°C, and Seoul often drops below freezing, with daytime highs around 4°C. If you are okay with the cold, you can enjoy festive lights and winter events. January is the coldest and snowiest month. Snow blankets the cities and mountains, especially in January, making it perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and cosy food experiences. Temperatures can dip below 0°C in northern parts, but the country is well-equipped for winter tourism.

In winter, you can go skiing at top resorts in the Pyeongchang area. The cold, dry weather creates ideal conditions for winter festivals and ice sculpture displays throughout the country. During Christmas and New Year, cities shine with decorations, adding to the festive feel. You will enjoy hot springs and traditional Korean saunas during the cold months.

It is a less busy time to visit and so you will find fewer crowds and cheaper hotel prices. You can enjoy attractions more peacefully.
