Pura Tanah Lot is one of the most beautiful temples in Bali. Believed to be about five hundred years old, the temple is set on a rocky islet surrounded by crashing waves. At the base of the temple is a natural source of holy water that provides visitors with a unique spiritual experience.
Although only priests and Bali locals are allowed to visit the top of the Tanah Lot, tourists can walk around the base of the temple and immerse themselves in the magnificent setting. Tourists come from afar to experience the sight of sunset in the breath-taking Indonesian waters. From Tanah Lot, a stroll along the tropical landscaped pathways will lead you to Batu Bolong, another Balinese sea temple built on a rock with an eroded void connecting it to the shore.
Mount Batur
Several tourists in Bali visit Mount Batur every day to begin trekking up to the 1700-meter summit to watch the sunrise from the misty mountains and the volcanic caldera far below. The active volcano lies in the central highlands of Bali and is just an hour’s drive away from Ubud. It has long been one of the favorite places to visit among tourists coming to Bali.
Ubud Monkey Forest
Also known as the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, it is a must-see tourist attraction in Ubud. In the evocative forests of dense banyan and nutmeg trees, the grey long-tailed macaques draw most of the crowds. In addition, tourists can also see the fourteenth century Pura Dalem Agung Padang tegal temple and the Pura Beji temple situated next to a cool stream.
Tegallalang and Jatiluwih Rice Terraces
The picturesque rice fields of Tegallalang or Jatiluwih add to the appeal of Bali tourism. You can stroll through the popular trails through the rice fields or enjoy the lush landscape by sitting at one of the restaurants and cafes overlooking the fields.
The Jatiluwih rice terrace covers a vast area of more than 600 hectares along the sides of the Batukaru mountain range and is less crowded than Tegallalang.
Ubud Art and Culture
Ubud is the core of the art and culture of Bali. There are several local museums and galleries that depict the evolution and traditions of Bali. The Agung Rai Museum of Art and the Neka Art Museum both house the traditional and contemporary works, including Kris (ceremonial daggers), classical wayang paintings, photography, etc. Ubud has many other museums as well, such as the Setia Darma House of Masks & Puppets, Don Antonio Blanco Museum, and Museum Puri Lukisan.
Also, don’t miss the Ubud Art Market, where you can shop for arts and crafts like sculptures, carvings, sarongs, paintings, etc. On the opposite side of the market, there is the Puri Saren Royal Ubud Palace that hosts traditional Balinese dance performances in the evenings.
The Nusa Islands
The Nusa Islands are the perfect places in Bali to witness a slow-paced life without the crowd and traffic. Lying towards the south of Bali, these islands with their white sand beaches, teal water, and seaside cliffs look too beautiful to be real. It takes just thirty-five minutes on a ferry to reach the Nusa Islands.
The Nusa Lembongan is the most popular island among the three. The major attractions here are the Dream Beach, Mushroom Bay, and the Devil’s Tears. The neighboring island, Nusa Ceningan, is connected to the Nusa Lembongan through a bridge. Nusa Penida is the largest of the three islands. You can find many rustic huts or luxury villas to plan your stay here. Some of the top draws of the island are rock formations, caves, and a bird sanctuary.
