Geography in Philippines

Philippines archipelago is far removed from the mainland of South-East Asia. It has no link to neighboring countries and even crossing islands within the archipelago isn’t as simple as taking a bus. However, more and more air carriers are making it cheaper and more feasible to go island hopping. The main island is Luzon which is home to Philippines’ capital Manila – this is often where the journey begins. There’s a lot to do on Luzon itself. The second largest island is that of Mindanao where there are more volcanoes than settlements. The central islands are collectively known as the Visayas and these are home to most famous party beaches like Borocay. Taking ferries is another option to reach island groups like Mindoro which are home to Apo reef and other diving havens. Another must-do in this island heaven is taking a tour of Banaue Rice Terraces which feature on UNESCO’s world heritage list. These are terraces that were carved into mountains of Ifugao by ancestors of the indigenous tribes.
