Tips for Visiting the Grand Bazaar
- Compare Prices: Similar products may have different prices across shops.
- Opening Hours: The market is usually open from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday to Saturday, and remains closed on Sundays and public holidays. Timings may change during festivals, so checking in advance is recommended.
- Bargaining Is Normal: Carpets, leather goods, and jewellery are all negotiable - starting at 50% of the asking price is standard. Packaged spices and fixed-price ceramics shops generally do not negotiate.
- Carry Cash: Smaller shops may prefer cash payments.
- Good to Know: The Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar are two different markets in Istanbul. The Spice Bazaar is famous for spices, sweets, and food items, while the Grand Bazaar is better for shopping for jewellery, textiles, and handicrafts.
