March to May
Spring is one of the best times to visit Kashmir. This is when Kashmir wakes up from winter. The weather is pleasant, not too hot or cold, with temperatures from 15°C to 25°C, making it perfect for sightseeing. The valleys explode with bright flowers, especially tulips, in the famous gardens in Srinagar.
The flowers, greenery, and calm weather create a peaceful and colourful vibe. It is also a good time for outdoor activities like walking through Mughal gardens, enjoying Shikara rides on Dal Lake, and light treks in nearby valleys. Evenings can get chilly, so pack light warm clothes, especially for places like Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
June to August
Summer is the peak tourist season, characterised by lush green meadows, clear skies, and comfortable temperatures. Even in summer, Kashmir stays cooler than most parts of India. With temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C, it is great for visiting hill towns like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Sonamarg.
It is perfect for trekking, long walks, Shikara rides, and apple picking towards the end of this season. While there can be some rain but it is usually mild. Overall, summer is ideal for enjoying the natural beauty of Kashmir without harsh heat or extreme cold.
September to November
Autumn in Kashmir is magical. This season is a photographer's delight as the Chinar trees turn red, yellow, and orange, painting the valleys with warm colours. The weather is crisp and mild, offering stunning views and a peaceful ambience before the onset of winter. It is ideal for those seeking serene beauty and pleasant weather. Temperatures stay comfortable, though evenings can get cooler, so a light jacket is helpful.
It is a great time to explore gardens, local markets, and enjoy Kashmiri culture at a slower, more relaxed pace. There are fewer tourists in the off-season, so it is a quiet and relaxing time to go.
December to February
Kashmir turns into a snow-covered wonderland in winter. It gets very cold, especially in January and February, so you need thick winter clothes. Lots of snow in places like Gulmarg makes it great for skiing, snowboarding, and walking in snow. While winter offers beautiful views and adventure, travel may be disrupted due to road closures or delays, especially after heavy snowfall.
Dal Lake looks stunning with frozen edges, and the surrounding mountains are covered in snow. Fewer tourists visit at this time, so it is also a quiet, peaceful season for those who love snow.
