Why Is the Louvre Museum Famous?
- Famous artwork: The Louvre is home to Leonardo da Vinci’s famous Mona Lisa, which attracts the biggest crowds. It is displayed behind protective glass in the Salle des États.

Best Time to Explore the Louvre Museum
Tips before Exploring the Louvre Museum
- Decide what you want to see before entering.
- The Louvre is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. On Wednesday and Friday, it stays open until 9:00 PM.
- Last admission is 1 hour before closing, and visitors must leave 30 minutes before closing.
- The museum is closed every Tuesday. It is also closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25.
- Keep enough time for security and walking between galleries.
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- Do not plan to see the entire museum in one visit.
- The Pyramid is the main entrance. Online ticket holders can also use the Carrousel entrance.
- Check the official website for current entry rules and opening information.
- If the Mona Lisa is a priority, check the museum’s current visitor information before your visit because gallery arrangements can change.
