4. Theyyam
- When - Theyyam is a seasonal festival held from October to May, mainly in the Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala. Dates vary, so it’s best to check with local temples or sources for exact schedules.
- Where - North Malabar region, especially Kannur and Kasaragod.
- Why - Theyyam is a traditional ritual where performers, dressed in colourful costumes and makeup, act out stories of gods and ancestors. It is seen as a way for people to connect with the divine through these powerful performances.
5. Makaravilakku
- When - January 14th, coinciding with Makar Sankranti.
- Where - Sabarimala Temple, Pathanamthitta district.
- Why - Makaravilakku is the final day of the Sabarimala pilgrimage when devotees gather to see the sacred Makara Jyothi light, believed to show the presence of Lord Ayyappa.
