It was known as Jernigan, named after the Jernigan family, who had built up the primary lasting settlement in the zone. Jernigan had a mail station, built up May 30, 1850.

After six years with the settlement extending northward, the network formally changed its name to Orlando. In 1857, the U.S. Mail station embraced the name change. The Town of Orlando was joined in 1875 with 85 occupants, 22 of whom were qualified voters. History isn't as demonstrate on where the innocence Orlando started. There are four stories that are told.
