Leader shares how this group tour was filled with laughter, culture, and the magic of strangers becoming family.

As someone who has travelled to countless destinations, I can confidently say that my recent trip to Russia left me absolutely mesmerised. Let me take you through my Moscow adventure – a city that completely changed my perspective about this incredible country.

My Russian Arrival: From Chaos to Comfort

When I landed in Moscow on August 25th, 2025, my heart sank a little. The airport was honestly messy. There were no proper queues, and immigration took almost 1.5 hours. For a moment, I wondered how my trip would go.

But oh, how wrong I was! The moment I stepped out of the airport, everything changed. The roads were systematic, transport services were well-organised, my guide was waiting with a warm smile, and there were proper money exchange counters. It was like stepping into a completely different world – one that was beautifully organised and welcoming.

Weather in Russia: My Summer Experience in a Cold Country.

Russia is famous for its long, cold winters and very short summers.I  landed in Moscow during the summer and expected it to be quite warm. But surprisingly, it felt pleasantly cool!

The weather was mild and comfortable, with temperatures mostly between 17°C and 22°C. So yes, it is cooler than India’s summers but not freezing at all! The fresh air and gentle breezes made for a beautiful atmosphere ideal for sightseeing. The air was crisp, the skies clear, and it felt like the perfect weather for a leisurely walk. For Indians travelling to Russia, I would say – carry layers, because Moscow’s weather has its own little surprises!

Faces of Moscow: Meeting the People

Russians can seem a little reserved or serious at first, maybe even a bit arrogant. But as you spend time, you realise the pride they have in their rich history and culture. I also noticed a large number of Indian students and workers in Moscow, which made me feel more at home. The city felt safe and respectful towards us, Indian travellers.

Discovering Red Square: The heartbeat of Moscow

Red Square

Red Square is the oldest and largest square in Russia. You can just feel the history all over the place when you explore it. All distances in Moscow are measured from the Red Square or the Kremlin area. Walking on this iconic square was pure magic!

There were amazing artists everywhere, making beautiful sketches and paintings. I was really looking forward to visiting the famous museum – The State Historical Museum- at Red Square, but there was a special event that day, so I could not go inside. Locals told me it’s truly stunning, so it will definitely be on my list for the next visit!

Red Square was amazing because it felt so alive and full of energy. Even though it is such an old, historic place, it was packed with tourists from everywhere, street performers, and local people just living their normal lives. You could really feel the heartbeat of the city there.

Right next to it is the Kremlin, the historic centre of the city. It is a UNESCO site, and its walls hold so much history. The beautiful buildings tell the story of Russia – from long ago to today. When I walked inside, I felt like I was surrounded by centuries of Russian history. Everything was so well-kept that I could really see and feel how grand Russian culture is.

St. Basil’s Cathedral: The Colourful Crown of Red Square

St. Basils Cathedral

Just a few steps from Red Square stands the breathtaking St. Basil’s Cathedral with its colourful onion-shaped domes. Built in the 16th century, it is one of Russia’s most iconic landmarks. With its bright colours and unique design, it looks like something from a fairy tale, and it is perfect for photos!  Standing in front of it, I felt like a child looking at a fairytale castle. I must have taken a hundred photos, but none could capture the sheer majesty of this architectural wonder.

Architecture Everywhere: The Squares, Statues, and Fountains of Moscow!

What struck me most about Moscow was how architecture is everywhere. From statues in the middle of squares to decorative fountains at crossroads, the city feels like an open-air gallery. Even ordinary buildings had detailing that made me stop and admire. Compared to Indian cities, where modernity often overtakes history, Moscow seemed to hold on tightly to its artistic past.

Moscow State University: An Architectural Wonder

Moscow state university

The Moscow State University building is absolutely stunning – it is what I call an architecturally “wow” moment. This grand building, designed in Gothic Revival and Stalinist style, is so impressive that any student would feel inspired walking through its halls. It looks like a palace of learning and shows how much Russia values education and knowledge.

Luzhniki Stadium

Luzhniki Stadium

One of the best parts of my Moscow trip was visiting Luzhniki Stadium, the largest sports arena in Russia. It is not only for football fans; the rooftop view is stunning, and its massive size makes you feel small. Set by the Moskva River and surrounded by greenery, it is a lively hangout for locals. Even if you are not into sports, the energy of the place leaves a lasting impression.

The Life and Joy of Arbat Street: Swings, Shops, and Street Vibes!

Do not miss Arbat Street! It is one of the most happening streets in Moscow, full of life, shops, and restaurants. For shopping and lively vibes, Arbat Street is the place to be.

This pedestrian street is home to some of the city’s best hotels, including the beautiful Lotte Hotel and the impressive Lotte Shopping Complex. What made me smile was seeing swings along the street where people of all ages were enjoying themselves – adults swinging like children, couples laughing together.

The street also has a lovely library, and there is this great energy that makes you want to keep walking and exploring. It is busy but relaxed, new but traditional – perfectly showing what Moscow is all about.

Moscow Metro and Flyover Views – Sightseeing with a Twist

The Moscow Metro is not just for transport; it is a main sightseeing point in itself. Every station is like a beautiful palace, with unique and stunning art. I even took a metro ride on my own, which was a very fun and unique experience. Each station is designed differently with chandeliers, marble, and mosaics that tell stories from Russian life. I felt like I was in a museum, not a metro!

Another highlight was Flyover Moscow, a brilliant 4D virtual tour. It makes you feel like you are flying over the city. This cool attraction lets you fly over Moscow’s famous buildings and see the city from above, like you are in a helicopter. It is totally safe and comfortable. The technology is amazing, you really feel like you are flying over Red Square, the Kremlin, and Moscow’s pretty bridges and rivers.

Cruising Down the Moscow River: Sights from the Water

Moscow River Cruise

A Moscow River cruise was another highlight. Floating past the Kremlin, bridges, and beautifully lit buildings gave me a whole new perspective of the city. The breeze, the skyline, and the reflections on the water made it one of the most relaxing evenings of the trip.

You get to see Moscow in a totally different way from the water – the amazing buildings, pretty bridges, and how all the city lights shine on the river. It is definitely something you have to do!

Traces Of Communism: How The City Reflects Its People’s Story

Moscow is layered with history, and traces of Communism still live on.

One of the interesting things I noticed was how Moscow reflects its communist roots. Unlike many countries that build statues and monuments for kings and monarchs, Moscow honours its people.

The hospitals are built like fancy hotels, the universities look like beautiful palaces, and the statues honour regular working people instead of kings and queens. Every street and building seems to say this city belongs to everyone. You will also not find any beggars on the streets; it is a city with a very low poverty rate.

Food in Moscow: From Indian Comfort Meals to Russian Flavours

I was very happy to find that the Indian food in Indian restaurants in Russia was excellent! It felt like a warm hug of home after a long day of sightseeing. I also tried some local food like borscht (beetroot soup), pelmeni (dumplings), and blini (pancakes), which gave me a taste of the local culture. Moscow’s food has a lot of variety. The flavours are lighter compared to what we are used to in India, but it was still a tasty and enjoyable experience.

The Russian Circus: Childhood Nostalgia on Stage

Remember watching Russian circus shows as children? Well, I got to experience that magic firsthand!

The New Russian Circus “Pushkin’s Dreams” was absolutely spectacular. Unlike the old circuses, this one does not use animals – instead, it was filled with acrobatics, music, dance, and storytelling inspired by Pushkin’s fairy tales. It was magical, dreamy, and took me straight back to childhood. For families travelling with kids, this is a must-watch experience.

The acrobats were amazing, and their costumes were so fancy and gorgeous that it felt like watching a real royal palace show. Families with kids will love this – it brings back that exciting, magical feeling we all had when we were little.

City Farm & Candle Making Workshop

A visit to Moscow’s City Farm was a refreshing change, a little green area with animals, gardens, and local crafts. I tried a candle-making workshop here, and it was such a soothing experience. Simple, hands-on, and memorable, it added a personal touch to my trip.

Vodka Traditions: My Visit to the Ancient Vodka Museum

Russia and vodka are almost inseparable, so visiting the Museum of Russian Vodka was a must.

Being such a cold country with winter temperatures dropping to minus 20 degrees, vodka is not just a drink here; it is a cultural necessity to keep warm! I visited an ancient vodka museum where I saw over 50 different types of vodka. The variety was incredible, and yes, we got to taste a few as well!

It was a very interesting experience that helped me understand a bit more about the local culture.

Moskino Film Park – Film Expedition

Moskino Film Park

We also went on a guided Film Expedition at Moskino Film Park. Honestly, if you have been to Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, you might find this one smaller in scale. But it still offers a nice peek into Russia’s movie world with recreated sets and behind-the-scenes details. For me, it was more of a fun diversion than a must-see highlight.

Luxury Stays in the City: Kempinski and Lotte Hotels

I stayed at the beautiful Kempinski Hotel Moscow, and what a choice that was! The location was perfect – right near the bridge and river, offering stunning views from most rooms. The lobby was elegant with a lovely piano area, and my room was incredibly comfortable with beautiful river views.

Everything was within walking distance, and Red Square was just a 10-minute drive away. Being a 5-star property, it had all the luxury amenities, but what I loved most was how the hotel staff made me feel welcome and helped me navigate the city.

I also really liked the Lotte Hotel. It is located on Arbat Street, so you can easily walk around and explore the city. Both hotels were 5-star properties with all the luxury comforts.

Is Moscow Safe? – Honest Thoughts for Indian Travellers

I know many people are scared to visit Russia because of the ongoing war situation and all the news we see. But let me tell you from my personal experience – I felt completely safe throughout my trip. I walked around train stations at 10 PM by myself, took trains alone, and explored streets on my own – and I never once felt unsafe or in danger.

The locals were warm and welcoming, the city felt safe and well-lit, and the tourist spots were full of people from around the world. Like anywhere, it is wise to stay cautious, but do not let fear stop you from enjoying this amazing place.

Russia and India: A Friendship That Travels Beyond Borders

Russia and India have a great political relationship, and you can see that in how they treat Indian tourists. I met many Indians working and studying in Russia, and they all said they felt truly welcomed. With good Indian food, respect for our culture, and the warmth shown to Indian visitors, I felt proud of the friendship between our countries. As Indians, we are warmly received in Russia, which makes travelling there even more special.

Final Thoughts: Why Russia Belongs on Your Travel Bucket List

If I had to summarise Russia in three words, it would be a must-visit place. In your lifetime, if you have a travel wish list of countries to see, you should definitely add Russia to it.

This trip to Russia completely changed what I thought about this amazing country. Yes, it is different from other European places, but that is exactly what makes it so special. The grandness, the history, the culture, the food, the people, everything comes together to create an experience that you will never forget.

Whether you love history, architecture, culture, or just want to enjoy a fun trip with family and friends, Russia tour packages from India are definitely worth considering.

This amazing experience has inspired us to create something special – we are launching a Flamingo Russia package very soon! It is a destination that will surprise you in the best ways and leave you with memories that last a lifetime.
