  • It covers an area of 20000 square metres and is encircled by a 12 square kilometre man-made lake.
  • It is between the Vindhya and Satpura mountain ranges near Kevadia town in Gujarat. The statue is on a River island called Sadhu Bet near Rajpipla on the Narmada River and looks towards the Narmada Dam.
  • Around 3,000 workers, plus, 300 engineers from Larsen & Toubro built this massive structure in just three and a half years.
  • In 2011, PM Modi set up a trust for a specific purpose. Through the Loha campaign, the trust gathered about 129 tonnes of iron tools from almost 10 crore farmers in 169,000 villages across all states. This iron was then used to build the base of the statue. 
  • The statue can survive wind speeds up to around 100 km per second and earthquakes.
  • Four high-speed elevators are built within the legs of the statue. Each lift can take 26 people to the top in slightly over half a minute. 
  • At 153 meters high, there is a viewing gallery for the statue. Around 200 people can go there and see a scenic view of the Vindhyachal and Satpura mountain ranges and Sardar Sarovar Dam.
  • The Statue of Unity will change from its original bronze color to green over 100 years because of a natural aging process.

  • Ahmedabad – 200 km
  • Vadodara – 90 km
  • Surat – 150 km

You can reach Kevadia as follows –

By air – The nearest airport to Kevadia town is Vadodara Airport. To go to the Statue of Unity, take a bus or taxi from the airport. The distance from the airport to the statue is 80 km.

By road – You can drive down to Kevadia on NH 48 or take the state highway 11 from Vadodara or Ahmedabad. You can drive a private vehicle or bus or opt for public transportation bus from these cities. 

By rail – The railway station closest to the Statue of Unity is Kevadia railway station. It is also known as the Ekta Nagar railway station. This station is around 5 km from the statue. Many trains reach this station. You can check the latest train numbers and routes on the IRCTC website. From the station, you can either opt for a bus or a taxi to reach the statue.

October to February, the winter months are the ideal time to visit as it has mild temperatures ranging from 10°C to 25°C. The skies are clear, but it is the super peak tourist season.

Best Time to Visit

Open from Tuesday to Sunday – from 8 am to 6 pm. This tourist spot is closed on Mondays. Avoid weekends for a less crowded experience.

  • Basic Entry Ticket: ₹150 for adults, ₹90 for kids. It includes the monument, exhibition shows, museum, sound and light show, Dam Viewpoints, Valley of Flowers, and Bus Service. No access to the Viewing Gallery.
  • Viewing Gallery Ticket: ₹380 for adults, ₹230 for kids. It includes all basic entry benefits plus the Viewing Gallery.
  • Express Entry Ticket: ₹1030 for both adults and kids. It includes all basic and Viewing Gallery benefits with priority elevator access.
  • Foreigner Express Entry Ticket: ₹1530 for adults, ₹830 for kids. It includes all Express Entry benefits for international tourists.

Plan Your Visit

You will need at least 2-3 hours to see the main areas. It may not be possible to see everything in one day. If you want to explore nearby attractions, you will need a minimum of 2 to 3 days.
